Hi , I am new at this, my neighborhood ask me if this kind of mysterious events is a sign or clue of gold deposits. In which every time he planted a fruit tree in his backyard, he noticed that after a year pass by, the tree was dried up including its trunks and leaves. This occur every time he planted a tree fruit in 3 consecutive years and the result is the same… until I figure out that before they bought that land there are some gold treasure hunting had already cultivate the said area and have some of gold. The previous owner use a scanner detector for gold and the signal is very strong but due to inevitable circumstances the previous owner suddenly stroke and his wife sale the area for the medication of her husband..and that’s it the time my new neighbor experience this…

Rick, That’s quite a question. First I would be careful about counting on 12 ounces of gold for anything that requires urgent results, unless you have already sampled a site that you have access to.

With that said, in the lower 48, the western states with the most gold are: California, Colorado, New Mexico, Idaho, Oregon, Nevada, Arizona, Washington – See this table – http://www.nma.org/pdf/g_production.pdf for current gold production, but that includes major lode operations too. What you are looking for are placer mines.

I live in southern California it is dry here most the time. Are you going to cover how to find gold in areas with no water. All I can do right now is drywashing on the desert gold areas. Would love to find out how to improve my chances of getting decent gold thanks.

related to mineral ore: what do you mean when you say “the redder the better”. Does this relate to Limonite & the psuedo morphic decomposition of pyrite??
    Thanks,
    Jim

Mostly this refers to the red clay minerals derived from the weathering of iron bearing minerals, often ancient mafic (Magnesium-Ferric) lava flows, etc. It may include the larger minerals found in the placer too especially redder or black iron bearing minerals like garnets, magnetite, pyrites and hematite. All these are good indicators of gold both by specific gravity density and because they share the same mineral sources (especially secondary minerals in hydrothermal vents – e.g. Geyser zones)

Hi Jess..forgot to tell you…a ffriend of mine has tons of platinum on his property…mostly sandy loam…I tried panning it to some success but not great…is there a trick to pan platinum better or is there a better way to get the platinum out? Theresa

The key to platinum is not to throw heavy grey to silver nuggets out when you get down to black sands. They looked like lead to the old timers and were thrown back as waste. A small gold nugget would be size of big platinum nugget.

Hi Jess, not sure if I am registered as member…did purchase your 5 cd pkg…not here yet …Question…my famlies cottage in on a lake where all of the rocks you show on your web site are all over…even right on the lake shore at the cottage…ie slate with quartz viens in them….quartz veins all over, evan at the waterfalls……do I try to break these boulders and look for gold in the veins …..when we were kids, we would build fires on these large boulders and then put cold lake water on them…this in turn would shatter the rocks so we could clear a beach area…our family cottage is more than 60 years old…..everything is bedrock around us….the whole province was once covered by a glacier…..I know there is tons of gold in these types of surroundings…just want to make sure where to look…there are exposed quartz everywhere…I do not want to let people know where as this area is beautiful and do not want it distroyed
    take care

      Very interesting situation:
      1. Quartz veins through slate is a good potential trap.
      2. If the quartz or slate has a rusty red-black appearance it may contain gold.
      3. Regardless the deep cracks in slate the form a trap for gold like a sluice riffle especially when the crack crosses perpendicular to flow.

Crack crevicing or sniping can be very fruitful under these conditions, if gold is present even if it was only glacial gold. Pry bar and simple screwdriver scraper, then maybe a metal detector if enough gold is present in the pockets inside the slate. Start the work limited to lowest areas where cracks cross flow in flood. Use a sniper scope to see under water.

I have chosen prospecting as a way to stay outdoors. While being a coastal Washingtonian keeps me realistic about our limited amounts of gold, I would like to see some color at some point. Where do we learn the connections between the minerals found where gold might exsist?

when a turn mounds up a pile of boulders on the inside of a corner, where is the pay streak in that pile

Each rivers turn will be different this means the paystreak location will be different as well. This is part of the fun; the hunt of finding it, seeing how fast you can find it by careful sample panning, then if it’s worth the time to recover whats there or to move on. Hope this helps

Los Angeles and Ventura County area is usually best in the 1. Piru creek area (panning) and 2. San Gabriel river Azusa area. Check your local GPAA for access too. Note: This site access may change soon due to proposed land use restrictions and forest service limitations. That’s why knowing the mining law of 1872 is so important. Stand up and be heard!
