Crystalline gold specimens are each one unique
- Take a look at these crystalline gold specimens, it has a beauty and gold value all of its own. The value of specimen crystalline gold is it is not based on spot value spot prices for gold instead it’s based on the collectors interest and the aesthetic qualities of the gold itself.
This picture is one of my favorite crystalline gold specimens. Under a magnifier, the gold crystal facets seem to go on and on forever and sparkle almost like fools gold. In fact it is possible to confuse crystalline gold for fools gold because they take on nearly the same shape. One of the key differences is the richness of the yellow it’s not a brassy yellow it’s a deep golden yellow it’s the only way I know how to describe it. It glows. The crystals look different most times unless you see cubic gold. Gold can take on several crystal structures, see this native gold article on Mindat.org site.
Of course the other aspects the distinguish crystalline gold from other types of golden crystals is it’s malleability or softness and the kind of scratch or streak testing to ensure you see the glow of gold instead of black streaks when scraped on a white ceramic tile. Of course you don’t want to do much this with the quality crystalline gold specimens like the one shown here because it destroys value every time you scratch or ding the crystal structure.
The typical source for crystalline gold specimens is straight from the concentrated gold lode itself. It is rare for gold to concentrate enough to create crystals of sufficient quality. Think of it somewhat like finding large one answer greater nuggets.
This type of specimen gold is so rare that it’s typically valued at 1-1/2 to 2 times spot price so today at $1700 an ounce this could be worth up to $3400 an ounce to the right buyer. Of course bigger specimens will go even higher. Take a look at the Ironstone wineries beautiful 44 pound crystalline gold specimen pulled from the Harvard mine in Jamestown California in Dec 24, 1992. That story’s a gold mining legend in itself. (These types of large crystalline gold specimens are worth tens of millions!)
I have a beautiful crystalline gold specimen 3.78 Troy ounces, 117.3 g It was incased completely in quarts and was chiseled out. It’s outstanding has so many different types of crystals, it’s from Sierra city California I’m looking for someone to give me an honest estimation about its value. I’ve heard that true Christian specimens can be worth up to four times gold value. Is that true?
Congratulations on your success ,I can relate to your hardwork it’s very time consuming while prospecting and at home as well with the ideas and hopes .Myself has had some great findings myself here in the foothills of North Carolina of some great native gold yellow, white, some rose and black that I would love to share if you would allow,I would be great full as I tell know one really of my findings. Thanks jeff
Glad someone else found some too.
Did you get to sell any?
No one will buy mine because its new to them. So till i do i cant dig anymore.
Any suggestions?
Price it right and it will sell. Best thing is never tell somebody something you can’t back up or that is a lie. I have and still do buy even crystalline gold as many other types of gold for to make profit or to make rare jewelry. You are selling a rare item as never see two alike.

Hi I believe I recently found a crystalline specimen. Was wondering what your opinion is. If you wouldn’t mind..
I took my kids on a rock hunt up here in northern Minnesota. Very near where the precious mineral exploration has been taking place.
Some type of quartz. It was between a baseball and softball In size, little better than half as thick. With interesting veins visible. .., so I cracked it with a 3pounder and my heart sank. Bright silvery throughout one side,
Extremely bright gold on the other. When I held the light at the right angle it was completely covered in tiny gold bee-bee’s that went on forever… once home decided to soak in muriatic. Instantly there was a aggressive reaction. And what was left was a vein net work wrapping upwards from a mass On both sides.

Hi my name is Steven a few years back I found a amazing deposit of Naturally alloyed gold an pgms, i have multiple reports on these finds showing precious metal range. These pieces are unlike any form of crystal gold I’ve ever seen. I’m looking for help on getting this find reconized, they range from complety gold frosted quartz crystal clusters, with pgms placer in the quartz itself to spongy like Silica chunks coverd in gold and pgms, a few look like pure yellow gold glazings on glassy black bubbles of other elments, my favorite is the rhodium, silver, gold with traces of iridium, these display a very detailed precious coloring of the elments very much like a rainbow. If any one is able to help let me know..
I have a beautiful quartz crystal that is made up of multiple pieces of quartz. Hard to explain, it is about 3 inches long all sides are perfectly smooth and gold can be seen in and around the surrounding pieces, and deep within the main crystal, was found near New London NC at a mining site. I am curious about this beautiful piece, and learning about how these types of crystal/gold are formed, I understand the process. But was told by the owner that it was worth a lot more than if the gold were extracted (knew that) and he warned me that if I tried to sell to be cautious due to thehe value value. Would love to have information as to how and figure the value, I know there is a formula, that I do not understand, lol. the sides are smooth, and form a perfect crystal, though not completely flat and no perfect point like you would see in a clear crystal, it is like a mosaic of quartz pieces all coming together to form this beautiful specimen. I am disabled and so when hubby is prospecting, dredging etc I amble along and look for crystals, and artifacts. I have a very large collection of Native American artifacts found mostly found in VA. This crystal and the gold have been found primarily in NC, some near Mineral VA. I can send a picture though the gold inside is not totally visible in pictures. No more rambling, just wondering how the value is determined more than anything. Happy prospecting, Dee LaFave.
You definitely want to talk to someone who specializes in those kinds of things, its worth more than the gold value for sure as a specimen. Do you know for sure its gold and not pyrite? Pyrite is a lot more common on quartz crystals
Hi Dee, I have mined and sold crystalline gold specimen for years, and will do so again in the near future. I am experienced at pricing these specimen as I needed to master this art (yes this selling is an art) to be able to get the best prices for my pieces. Mining for these specimen is very hard work I assure you, and requires experience. Therefor, a good return for my efforts is very satisfying to me. For gold to heal, or solidify in crystalline form requires a few certain geologic conditions, and that is why this form is so rare. Being a rare form, naturally there are collectors eager to find new specimens for their collections. Pieces of crystalline gold are the Rembrandt,s of the gold world; nature’s art at its best. I will say that crystalline gold associated with quartz crystals is even more rare, especially if it is clear quartz.
I will give you a name and email address, should you wish to pursue this further, with which to contact me. I would need pictures of the piece, and the weight. I am willing to help you. I am located in the Mother Lode region of California, where the gold rush occurred in 1849, and where 85% (or so) of the gold is still in the ground. Bob
I detected up a 34gram specimen today, in n.Calif.
Crystaline and small globules
Hello boB this is andrew anb from the motherlode area myself. I need your contact information so you can check out my specimens
I would like to talk to u about couple pieces I have
Hi I found the other day a specimen up here in northern Minnesota. Very near where the precious mineral exploration is taking place. Cloudy quartz, little bigger than baseball, half as thick.
It reacted instantly with muriatic. One side is bright silvery metallic veins with gold tints. The other side is bright gold veins. Both sides wrap up from a mass individually, but the gold side, when light is held just right is covered in what looks like tiny gold bee-bees that appear to go on for ever. I don’t have a scale but what’s left must be In the vicinity of 5-7oz
HI Bob ,
Just got back from the Columbia state Park in California in the gold country where i went to purchase an additional piece of crystalline gold and find out how much it cost since my purchase several decades ago. i was informed that the mine where it was found closed many years ago , and that they did not have any to sell . Yes i was disappointed .
Locking up the value of crystalline gold, the price per ounce ranges up to twice the price of 99.9 % pure gold nuggets.
