Exactly what I needed. I’m retired army and have found gold prospecting invigorating. Since I just started your videos brought back much of my earth science memories. And just like the farmers almanac used to be definitive in its instructions on “How To” sadly it’s no longer like that. Its “the less info you have, the less competition I have” axiom too prevelant in today society.I just wanted to say Thank You and ask you How do I file a claim once I find the Lode claim? Also is there anyway it can be take away from me?

Assay, as in measuring the relative gold concentration. Sampling is just a part of the process. Measuring is another.

Gday mate I cme across your video on UTUBE today and learnt more in the couple of short video’s thn I have reading books on gold prospecting for the past 10 years.
I am on the East Coast of Australia and have been a electronic prospector (gold detector) for the past 10 years…
Most of the time has been spent on the gold fields of Western Australia and have been lucky enough to pick up a few large nuggets 5oz +…..
I have created the folder in my Email account as you suggested and am looking for to future Emails etc.
I have attended several gold prospecting courses here in Australia but they concentrate more on the use of the detector rather than where the fold comes from and where we should be looking for it.
I am so looking forward to following your advise and direction over the next month or so.

I was planting a flower bush this past summer. I hit a large vain of quarts crystal rocks. There are gold spots on these rocks. How do I test these places that are gold looking, in order to tell if it is real raw gold?
We live in South Carolina, I have ask around and no one can tell me how to test. My husband of 49 years acts
like I’m crazy. After all what 66 year old woman could find GOLD, while digging in the dirt to plant a bush? I have just sat down to look on the computer and found your site. Please let me know how to test this. I may be old but I dug that hole over waist deep all by myself. I then put over 4 bags of soil 2 1/2 cu ft per bag and still added more top soil, just to fill it up for my bush. I’m old but determined to get a job done. I am not lazy.

Question: what is red rock? Is red rock, iron ore?
Red rocks generally have some form of iron [Fe] in them. These are in the form of oxides, sulphides, etc. The iron also makes these rocks & minerals much denser than surrounding material. That density is a great indicator of potential high density concentrations of other heavy minerals including gold & platinum.
This is where prospectors have a saying – “the redder the better” If you see red to black minerals in your pan start looking closely for gold colors.
Hi, Jess I was watching your videos ,and like them. But, I was hopeing to see some different types of rocks to try an get a better picture and understanding of these rocks that are found around gold. I’ve been looking up rocks and minerals in my audubon book ,and i pad but when you have no one in the field to pick up and tell you what you have it’s hard, and all you can do is guess what you have. Maybe you can have a film showing rocks and minerals to open peoples mines a little better. Your videos is great education.
I just coming back to visit a country side friend in the Dominican Rep and I got really surprise to see than some People making the Prospect one way to live! The all area is surrounded by big hills of red sand, clay and remains of ancient river floods. The ORE in the area is high concentrate in Cooper and Gold, every single Pan got something!! What is the best way to deal with the Clay and the Ore ??

Thanks for all the information! All of it was very helpful. I’m only a novice when it comes to gold hunting although I have been searching this one particular creek for years but have only found fools gold and lots of quartz. The creek has produced gold in the past with an uncle years ago, and according to a geological map we are near a so called vein which runs thru northwest Georgia and very close to our property. I noticed the creek originates from a hillside with tremendous amounts of rock/granite and some of the rocks are very large I wasn’t sure if this means anything or not.. Any help would be appreciated.

hey Daniel Thomas from prospectors and panners. me and my bro jerred live in Woodstock ga and do a lot of panning here. the secret weve found to panning in ga is to dig the clay. the clay tells the secret. you cant tell from the surface but the clay can tell you a lot about the creek. gray, red, brown, green. if you have a sluice is even better you will find flour and placer gold in the clay.

Do like us! Instead of using the current stream sluice box where you have to shovel dirt into the sluice, we snipe it up with a dredge nozzle Power Dredging.
There’s nothing like sitting on your butt or swimming around sucking up gold! It’s easier on your joints too.
Also, the dredge nozzles get into cracks where shovels DON’T.
I found a waterfall. The rock all behind and around this waterfall is speckled with pyrite. What should i do to find out if there is any gold here somewheres? I panned the moss and the area at bottom of falls and found nothing but the mountain is all speckled with fools gold. I watched your videos and know that pyrite shows where gold can occur.
WATER FALLS CAN BE GREAT SPOTS FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, BUT IT DEPENDS ON THE SHAPE OF THE BOTTOM OF THE WATER FALL. SOMETIMES THER CAN BE A POCKET THAT OCCURS BEHIND THE WATERFALL AND THAT CAN CREAT A LOW PRESSURE WATER FLOW. THE LOW PRESSURE WATER POCKET CAN CATCH GOLD. IF THERE IS NO POCKET, THE GOLD WILL BE WASHED DOWN STREAM. IF THATS THE CASE I WOULD RECOMEND GOING DOWN STREAM WHERE THE RIVER STARTS TO WIDEN AND START YOUR TEST PANNING THER. AS THE RIVER WIDENS THE WATER WILL REDUCE PRESSURE AND THE GOLD CAN SETTLE EASYER. SO I HAVE LEARNED.

I haven’t missed one of your videos since I started watching a couple of months ago. I’ve been placer mining since around 1976 off and on. Had a couple of good claims in the past then got away from it. My son, nephew and I started back 2 yrs. ago up in the Trinity area here in No. Ca. and then I joined Dave McCracken’s New 49er’s gold club with 80 miles of claims on the Klamath river and tributaries. We’ve found a bit of gold but after watching your videos and reading your blogs I can look back to some of the places we’ve mined and I know now where there will be some good gold. I really want to thank you for what you are doing for the hobby and business of recreational gold mining. Believe me Jess, we appreciate you.

The lessons are mostly applicable anywhere gold is to be found. My experience is mainly in the US, but that shouldn’t stop you from employing what I teach.
